Providing Psychological Assessments & Therapy Services to the Macarthur Area

What to Expect?

Most people are a little nervous when seeing a Psychologist for the first time, usually due to not knowing what to expect.

Importantly, all Psychologists need to adhere to a Code of Ethics, as prescribed by The Australian Psychological Society. This ensures that your wellbeing is always of the utmost importance, you will be treated with dignity and respect, and your information will be held in the strictest of confidence.

At your first appointment, you will meet with the Psychologist who will be responsible for your care. After completing some initial paperwork, you will be shown into a private consultation room. During your first consultation, most of the time will be spent on assessment. It is important for your Psychologist to understand what difficulties you have been experiencing, when they began and how they may have developed over time. You may be asked a little about your background, family history and any other factors which may be relevant. It is important for your psychologist to have a thorough understanding of what you have been experiencing to determine the kind of treatment or therapy you need.

This is the perfect time to discuss any goals you may have, or things you would like to address. You may also discuss any questions you have about psychological therapy.

At the end of the first consultation, the psychologist will help you identify targets or goals to work towards, and also recommend a course of treatment. This will likely consist of a series of therapy sessions, outlining a type of therapy and the focus of the sessions.
